Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has ended speculation surrounding his future by signing a new five-year deal with the Spanish giants, the club confirmed. Ramos had been courted by Manchester United during a standoff in negotiations between his representatives and Madrid president Florentino Perez over the Spanish international's salary with his previous deal set to expire in 2017.

Portuguese giants Benfica are demanding €7.5 million ($8.3m) compensation from former coach Jorge Jesus who joined bitter rivals Sporting Lisbon last June, a club official told Portguese daily Expresso on Monday. Jorge Jesus "unilaterally terminated the contract that bound him to the club and must pay the required compensation," club spokesman Joao Gabriel said.
