Tottenham Hotspur's Belgian midfielder Mousa Dembele (L) and Chelsea's Brazilian-born Spanish striker Diego Costa (R) clash during the English Premier League football match between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge in London on May 2, 2016.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mousa Dembele faces a lengthy ban after the Football Association charged him with violent conduct over an incident involving Chelsea's Diego Costa. Dembele appeared to gouge Costa's eye during Monday's 2-2 draw between the teams at Stamford Bridge and the FA said that if the Belgian midfielder is found guilty, the standard three-game ban will be "clearly insufficient".

Chelsea and Tottenham have also been charged with failing to control their players following a series of flare-ups during the game, the result of which saw Leicester City crowned Premier League champions. Dembele was charged after footage of the incident with Costa was reviewed by a panel of three former elite referees. He has until 1700 GMT on Thursday to respond.
