La Liga strugglers Granada sacked coach Jose Ramon Sandoval on Monday after defeat to Gary Neville's Valencia on Sunday left them rooted to the foot of the table. "The results obtained by the team in recent games have forced the club to take this difficult decision," Granada said in a statement on their website.

Jose Manuel Gonzalez Lopez has been named as Sandoval's successor until the end of the season. Gonzalez Lopez had been working as former Atletico Madrid boss Gregorio Manzano's assistant at Chinese club Beijing Guoan. A 2-1 loss to Neville's rejuvenated Valencia was the final straw for Sandoval as Granada lost for the fourth consecutive game to slip four points off safety with 13 games of the season remaining.
